"I Know We'll Get There" was written during the VH1 and Republic Records "You Oughta Know" Make a Band Famous competition. After being narrowed down to the Top 8 bands in the New York City rounds, the contestants were challenged to write a new original song about "fame."
Lesleigh and I had a matter of hours to write together overnight. We were in a room with the 7 other bands, overlooking New York Harbor, and the Statue of Liberty. The challenge really tested us, but we are very proud of the end result.
This song helped carry us all the way to 4th place (out of 2700+ bands!), and we are especially moved by the HUGE outreach from our fanbase. Thank you for supporting us along the way. This one's all for you!
lyrics
(V1)
I’ve played guitar in dive bars,
Been nickeled, I’ve been dimed.
I’ve sung songs for no one
After 10 hour drives.
I’ve also played for thousands,
And shaken lots of hands.
I’ve been alone up on the stage,
And I’ve played with my band.
(Chorus)
Oh yeah, the road is long
When you work in song.
And we may be worse for wear,
But I know we’ll get there.
(V2)
I’ve put myself out there…
I’ve won and I have lost.
I have paid so many dues,
And withstood many costs.
I don’t look back often,
But when I do, with pride.
I play my heart out every night,
The rest I take in stride.
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
Nothing is for nothing,
You must learn it as you go.
(Chorus)
